Dios Mamajes Batanes - DIY

They call it "Breathtaking BATANES", the northern most province in Philippines.

Well for me it's more than that! I found Batanes is still a sleeping beauty and undisturbed, kahit saan ka tumingin is a picture perfect.

Batanes is my ultimate travel dream destination, so getting here is a dream came true.

Pinned location in Google map

We booked our flight via Philippine Airlines Clark - Basco - Clark, a five (5) day itinerary with the airfare of Php 3,687 per way and I though that was cheap, but it's really not! Because airfare + P2P bus fare + terminal fee. Unlike sa NAIA less P2P at no terminal fee so it will save you Php 700.

Day 0

Clark Int'l Ariport

Leaving the island of Luzon, Aparri and Cagayan River

Happy siya, this is it na daw!!! :)

Day 1: Arrival Basco

Touch down Basco!

Our first night is in Ivatan Inn

Make sure may hotel reservation na kayo prior to your arrival.
That time July is still peak season ng mga tourista sa Batanes, why? Because most of the airline seat sale is happens on rainy season.

Our room, medjo mainit lang mahina aircon. I don't recommend this.

After checking in, we have a quick lunch in a nearby carinderia cost Php 80 (ulam-50 and rice-30).
After lunch simulan na!

* North Batan Tour
That time wala na daw available tricycle yun inn kaya ipinagamit saamin yun van nila, at first we thought it's not okay kase, di mo malanghap yun fresh air, hindi open view, pero mas okay na din pala haha kase sobrang init talaga, good thing may aircon, beside sa Sabtang at Sounth Batan tour sure ball trike kame.

📍 Basco Arch
Lahat ata ng normal North Batan tour dito ang first stop.

📍 Mt. Carmel Chapel

The chapel that time is ongoing renovation, the roof was totally destroyed by a super typhoon Ferdie in 2016, and a little donation can help rebuild the chapel.

The gang

📍 Basco PAGASA Complex

Kahit tirik ang araw, tiis-tiis lang!

The PAGASA radar has been also destroyed, pero ganon pa man, tuloy lang ang paglakad-lakad sa paligid dahil lahat ng spot ay maganda! This place is a must also because it offers a 360 breathtaking view.

📍 Fundacion Pacita (From afar😂)

📍 Japanese Tunnel

The entrance of the cave

May part na malalim pero di na namin pinuntahan, that time madulas ang trail at steep, kaya lumabas nalang kame agad at pumunta sa taas ng tunnel.

SUMMIT! :D 10/10 hike.

📍 Valugan Boulder Beach

📍 Vayang Rolling Hills

This spot is one of the best views in Batan tour!

Best month to travel in Batanes according to locals is summer between February to May. But if you want a green green grass like this, punta kayo ng rainy season :D at your own risk ng rainy days at stranded :D

📍 Basco Lighthouse / Naidi Hill

We ended our day tour here at Naidi Hill, kung saan narito rin ang Basco Lighthouse built in 2003 (Not in the Spanish era na tulad ng sinasabi sa ilang blog -.-)

The small town of Basco and Mt Iraya

Basco Port

We stayed almost 2 hours here, tambay, waiting sa sunset and we really enjoy the place.

Coconut crab, we didn't expect na meron sila ganyan sa menu nila (D' Islands Lodge and Restaurant)

Day 1 itinerary and expenses

Php 350/pax - Batan Island Environment Fee
Total = Php 1,500

Day 2: Sabtang Island
----

We woke up early, medjo hindi kame makatulog it's either namamahay or excited sa next adventure :D (Pero honestly medjo mainit.)

After breakfast and shower we packed our things, ride a rented tricycle from our inn to Ivana port.

As I mention, kahit saan ka tumingin it's all picture perfect

Upon arriving at Ivana port we pay the Faluwa boat fare and wait for boarding.

Naghahari ang Bisumi tour sa Island ng Batanes, if ever makasabay ninyo sila tell your guide in Sabtang na mag reverse tour para maiwasan ang Bisumi guests, coz 2 vans yan madalas, madami-dami :D

Team Habagat sa Faluwa

Si Nikubuy

Sabtang Lighthouse

Approaching Sabtang island you will see the picture perfect lighthouse.

Tada! Touchdown Sabtang port.

After we pay Sabtang environment fee deretso check in sa aming homestay, and this is a legit Batanes experience homestay sa mismong lighthouse ng Sabtang (Nanay Adela's Hometel)

Pero eto talaga yun, octagon style it can accommodate up to 8 persons with 4 queen size bed with a CR.

They have plenty of rooms here, and here is the inside of the octagon house.

May separator naman each bed if you want privacy

Yes, pwede aircon pero you have to pay Php 1,000/pax

Medjo masurot lang haha pero what do you expect..

At the back of the octagon house

After mag ayos ng gamit ready nang simulan ang araw for a tour, pero siempre kain muna para may lakas :)

50 pesos ulam and 20 pesos rice. Pwede na!

* Sabtang Tour

First stop on this landmark located lang near the port and a must to picture.

Group pic! Nikko, Jen, Jehp, Romeo

📍 Savidug Stone Houses

Bromance

Okay this time hindi bawal, kundi ongoing renovation ang landmark na 'to.

Old Spanish stone house

Arius - Batanes signature tree

Okay moving forward..

📍 Chamantad | Tinyan Viewpoint

Mag-jowa

📍 Barrio Chavayan

Next stop is the last stone houses village sa south part ng Sabtang island.

Home made Avocado ice cream.
'D best dito ang home made ice cream nila, super smooth as in smooth for only Php 25 each!

But, life must go on este tour pala.
Along the road papunta naman sa kabilang side ng south part ng Sabtang ang last inhabitant village nadaanan namin ang magandang point na ito.

📍 Nakanmuan Village

Ang last stone houses village sa south Sabtang.

Notice the door, indication the people living here is not at home.

📍 360° Payvahan

Yes best view talaga 360 view!

📍 Morong Beach

Alam nyo na this...

Sabtang port - view from our stay for the night at Sabtang lighthouse

Free of use ng kitchen tools gas stove, plates. spoon etc., may iba lang may bayad tulad ng bigas, kaya if you stay here much better may baon kayo food na pang luto.

Sunset again ;)

And our day 2 has officially ended.

Total Php 1,550

Day 3: Free Day, Re-charge, Relax, Explore, Experience.

We woke up with a good plenty of sleep, late na kame natulog dahil tumambay muna kame sa taas ng lighthouse hopping na mag clear ang sky at magpakita ang milky way.

We prepare our breakfast, nagluto ulit ako rice and tortang century tuna, bread, peanut butter and coffee. We set up outside the kitchen with this breathtaking view.

View pabalik ng lighthouse coming from the secret lagoon (c) @ako_junjun

We have a quick shower and packed up, I called kuya Ismael to pick up us para ihatid kame sa port pabalik ng Batan Island for our legit stay at Diura Fishing Village the home of Dorado.

From left Nikko, Nanay Adela (The owner), Jen, Jehp, Romeo

It's been a superb experience here in Sabtang Island and to stay overnight here in lighthouse was a privilege.
..
Moving forward..
Yun lang nagka aberya, umorder kame ng 8 bukayo sa Chamantad | Tinyan Viewpoint for Php 800 noon day 2 na ide deliver daw nila kila Nanay Adela, pero hindi dumating nayanig ang mundo namin dahil kailangan namin abutan Faluwa boat ride pabalik ng Ivana port.
Mabuti nalang mabait at matulungin si Nanay Adela at tinawagan kung sino man nakaka-alam. Pero dumating na si kuya Ismael para sunduin kame pero nagpasama muna kame sakanya para bumalik ng Chamantad at kuhanin ang aming Bukayo, pero pag dating namin doon naipadala na pala at idrop off sa port, at dahil doon we pay Php 400 for service kay kuya Ismael so yung Bukayp na yun ay nagkakahalaga na ng Php1,200.

Ang pinaka iingat-ingatan naming Bukayo, very expensive

Exactly 1:00 pm umalis na ng Sabtang port ang Faluwa, pagkadating sa Ivana port nag quick visit lang kame sa Honesty store, di kame na-amaze I'm sorry we have  to be honest. Then we hired a trike and drop us sa Diura Fishing Village.

Yes, yung ibabaw ng Diura village is andun yun Tayid Lighthouse at Marlboro Hill

Touch down! Our homestay for tonight

Our lunch scrambled eggs + pancit + sardinas

A day to recharge <3

Low tide

And our day 3 has again officially ended.
I have planned first to go to Itbayat Island dahil 5 days naman itinerary namin, pero masa-sacrifice ang iba tulad ng magiging halfday tour lang sa Sabtang which recommended is to stay overnight at magiging mabilisan ang tour sa North and South Batan Island tour. So we decide na i-exclude na ang Itbayat for Batanes part 2 at ienjoy ang Batan at Sabtang Island.

Also our expenses on the pasalubong we recommend to buy your pasalubong on Savidug village marami sila unique items dun na wala sa Basco, sa Chavayan (Sabtang Weavers Association) din marami silang unique T-Shirt na wala din sa Batan island, sa katabing Souvenir shop  near ng House of Dakay sa Ivana (Photo below) at last stop sa Tawsen Souvenir Shop, wasak na wasak ang budget!

Day 4: Back to Adventure South Batan Tour

But back to reality, after a good sleep in our "legit" Batanes homestay experience, we woke up beacause of the sunrise in our window at kaagad bumangon ang partner ko to capture a unique and precious moment.

We just woke up like this

I brewed a coffee for a very quick light breakfast at kaagad na naglakad papuntang Spring of Youth.

Yes, kumpleto ang gamit sa homestay is not your ordinary experience, maliban sa legit experience, kumpleto rin sila, refrigerator, coffee maker, oven toaster, water boiler, TV with Cignal cable. complete kitchen tools, etc..

📍Spring of Youth

A little Grotto

Spring of Youth

Fresh water

Sobrang na enjoy ko personally this place, fresh running water, breathtaking view at an sarap talaga maligo. Maliban nalang dun sa isa namin kasama Red Days...

That time halos na solo namin ang place, may naabutan lang kame mag partner na nauna.

Group picture bago umalis.

We spend just less than 2 hours, get back to Monica's Cottage for a quick shower and start our South Batan tour.

📍 Sung-Sung Ruins

Okay lunch break muna

Pero if your on a budget ehhh good luck ;)

Our set meal lunch Php 300/pax or 350 I forgot. Softdrink in can is Php 170. At tumigil ang pagkain namin. What? 170?

📍 Kayvaluganan Park

Ang layo nila nag picturan na

📍 House of Dakay

📍 Old Spanish Bridge

Sbrang init kaya mabilisang picturan lang, we have blessed a sunny day.

📍 Maydangub White Beach

Dito na ako nakaramdam ng konting lungkot, dahil alam ko alam namin na our tour destination is numbered.

Mas mainitm mas nag enjoy! :)

Hmmm

Tuloy lang...

📍 San Carlos Borromeo Parish

So this was a must, dito ka magsusulat pipili ka ng book ng susulatan, pwedeng hugot or pagpapasalamat sa expeience etc..

 Mahatao Port and Boat Shelter

📍 Chawa View Deck

Our last stop on this Breathtaking BATANES experience.

We cannot go down far, dahil nasira na yung deck sa pinaka baba ng malalakas na alon at high tide na din.

Exactly 3:00 pm nag end ang South Batan tour namin, but we're not finish yet, deretso kame sa Tawsen Souvenir shop.

We checked in to Nanay Cita's Homestay in Basco, this is very nice at maraming beses na din itong na feature sa mga blog at vlog both locals and foreigner. Our rate is 300/pax I repeat 300/pax aircon na 4 kame sa isang room so pang budgetarian talaga, the room si very clean and CR feeling at home ka talaga kumpleto sa beddings at kitchen use.

Nanay Cita's Homestay FB page

Dahil maaga pa we go to Basco plaza para maghanap ng mabibili pagkain for our merienda and dinner.

Day 5: Fake Departure

Naidi Hill on the background

We have a 11:50 am scheduled flight back to Clark at maghahanap pa sana kame ng mapupuntahan, but suddenly we were stun by the news spreading in the homestay, "CANCELLED FLIGHT". Yes some of the guest of Nanay Cita's Homestay have their flight cancelled day and days ago because of the weather condition in the Island. We check our flight status and we have received email from PAL the day before that our flight is scheduled. Pero duda parin kame, dahil based sa experience ng PAL Express once na mag cancelled sila ng flight for 2 days in a row, parang domino effect na yan. And this is the day 3 that PAL and Cebu Pac is cancelling flights to-from Basco.

Siempre worry kame, we packed our stuff and immediately go at the airport.

Mt Iraya (From homestay's view deck)
The first time na nagpakita samin ng partial ang mahiyain na si Iraya since day1 na all the way covered ng clouds ang summit niya.

Pag dating namin sa Basco airport ang dami tao and it looks like we were to late na.
And TADA!!! Our flight is officially cancelled to.

Nikko was talking to the staff siempre normal na yan baka may way pa and Jen na mawawalan na ng trabaho pag balik ng Manila dahil sa matagal nang absent :D

May free Oreo and water naman pampalubag loob.

It is normal na mag worry at ma-sad na parang sa isang iglap yun 4 days na masasayang experience is napalitan ng disappointment. Pero for me ganon talaga, I know that Batanes is prone to stranded due to unpredictable weather. We accepted nalang and try to board for a chance passenger the next flight.

The other guest is booked to other airlines like Sky Jet and Sky Pasada (Basco - Tuguegarao) mas okay pala sa Sky Jet hindi basta basta nag cacancel ng flight dahil sa hindi propeller ang airplanes nila that can stand strong wind.

One of my couz is swerteng tinawagan ng Sky Pasada that day dahil meron 1 guest na no show sa flight nila, so nakasama siya sa flight from Basco to Tuguegarao. Atleast nakabalik ng Luzon.

And for us three, life must go on, nag lunch sa pansitan.

Pancit Batil Patong

After lunch we're back at the homestay at nag plan nalang to explore Basco via bike para hindi sayang ang araw.

Day 5 itinerary and expenses

7:00 am - Wake up
8:00 am - Breakfast
10:00 am - Go to airport
4:00 pm - Bike around Basco

Php 335/pax - Accommodation
Php 50/pax - Bike
Total = Php 385

Day 6: Philippine Air Force on the rescue!

We woke up with a good weather and hope na makakasakay sa flight that day. After breakfast we again packed our stuff and go to airport. Pag dating namin sobra dami parin tao and the flight for that day is on schedule. Kaso priority yung mga guest na 3-4 days ng stranded, we're on the list for chance passenger but we knew malabo ng makasakay.

We decided to head back at the homestay expecting to spend another night (Paubos na ang emergency money namin).

Pagdating sa airport nasa boarding na lahat ng passenger na isasakay ng PAF for free back to Manila, and were on the list na at last sa list as in last! Ganon ka-swerte and thanks to my poging pogi pinsan sa pagdiskarte niya sa airport he was able to talk to the authorities of PAF.

PALEx boarding na din sila

Then the unexpected happened, nagpasakay ng libre ang #PAF ng mga pasaherong na cancelled ang flight papunta Manila 🤩🤩

Thank you sa Philippine Air Force aware sila na marami stranded passengers sa Basco kaya nagpasakay sila ng as much na kasya sa aircraft.

Around 4:30 pm we arrive at Villamor air base and we got a one-way ticket refund from PAL without penalty.
